Live in and for the Moment, because that’s all there is. Do it now. Dwelling in the past or hoarding away for the future robs you of the bliss of the Now. Recognize and Honor everything as a Gift, whether it be pleasure or pain. Some day you will find its purpose, it’s blessing. Spend time every week with a Child under 6 years of age. Walk your days without alarm clock and wristwatch. Exercise aerobically 3 times per week., not just to exercise, but as an intrinsic part of your lifestyle. Use Moon time (ex. Falling Leaves Moon, waxing crescent). Be as a question. One question leads to another, fosters inquisitiveness. Answers shut us off to other possibilities, encourage judgements and dogmatism. Practice attunement/awareness skills (Shadowing, Balance, breaking mental patterns, Coming to Oneness, sensory awakening) continually. Not as isolated exercises, but within context of normal activities. Squat and sit cross-legged whenever possible (at meal times, when reading or writing, while visiting or doing craftwork). Keep forageables log, incl. location and Moondate (ex. Cinnamon Fern – gathered 1/2 Moon after first Leeks). Practice Honor and Respect (reverence and conscientiousness) in all things and with all Beings. Ex.: Lay down Offering (Kinnikinick, a strand of own hair) and speak your desire/need before foraging, traveling, requesting assistance.
Practice Truthspeaking with self and others Practice Da’i (respectfully returning you scat, urine, fingernails, hair, menstrual blood, etc. to the Earth.) Leave field guides at home. Instead, observe, use memory, take notes. Quality relationships require presence. Use books as last step in knowing. Familiarize yourself with the Earth language spoken in your area and regularly add these terms and phrases to your everyday speech. Earth languages reflect the spirit of the Land and echo the voices of the Relations who naturally live there. Making as many of our own clothes, eating utensils, canoe paddles, and other everyday-use items as we can, help us to feel less alienated and more connected with the means and ends of our existence. Wear soft, thin footwear and clothing. Heavy-soled shoes and denim-canvas materials are stiff and interfere with skin sensitivity. Deep treaded footwear tears up the ground. Eat your Ancestral foods — minimal carbs, no dairy or legumes, lots of green vegetables, fruit and nuts, along with healthy meat, fat and eggs. Eat slowly, lightly, wisely, and with Honor. Fast periodically (one day a week works well for many). Check in regularly to see of what service you can be to your Circle, The Mother, and the Relations. Only by Giving can we Receive.
