The Urvision
(Native Visions) gathering was held outside of Stockholm, Sweden, the last
week of July. Inspired by other gatherings about rewilding and resistance,
we wanted to make a similar event here. The site was very beautifully
situated by a lake in a blueberry filled forest, but with a clearcut nearby
reminding us of civilized destruction. Since this was the first time we
organized a big open gathering like this, we didn’t really know what to
expect, but it turned out to be really successful. Around a 100 people came,
from various countries in Europe.
There were a lot of workshops and discussions, and there were so many people
who wanted to share skills and experiences, that the program on the note
board was packed with activities during the last days. There were primitive
skills workshops such as friction fire making, cordage and knots, hide
tanning, bows and arrows, traps, plant gathering, primitive cooking and
moccasin sewing. Discussions were held with topics about for example green
anarchy, ecodefense, security culture, paleo diet, permaculture, native
parentning, and truthspeaking. Thierry Sallantin was there and spoke about
his many years living with native people in the Amazons, and his project of
trying to get a group to go and live there. There were awareness and
relaxation exercises, shamans held drum journeys and a sweat lodge ceremony.
It was great to have so many interesting activities, but the drawback was
that things collided in the schedule and people found it hard to choose what
to attend to. Judging from the interest and willingness to share and
discuss, we could probably have filled another week with workshops.
We managed to feed everyone with free food. People took turns in cooking in
the communal kitchen, always one vegan and one paleo alternative. There was
a library and a distro with magazines and books. We didn’t ask for
permission to be on the government owned land at the site, but there was no
problem with that, no cops came and no locals complained. Actually
everything ran very smooth, and there wasn’t any real problem with anything
at all. The weather was good, a few showers the first days, not too hot and
with almost no mosquitos.
Many experiences were exchanged, ideas spread, skills shared, seeds sown,
and friends made. People listened to each other in a respectful way, and
there were also a lot of joy and laughter, despite the seriousness of the
situation we’re in. It was a great gathering which gave a lot of inspiration
and empowerment. This gathering, and Zerzan’s speach in June at the
university of Stockholm for a hundred people, are clear signs that the green
anarchist, anti-civ, native longing, and wild growing ideas are spreading in
Sweden.
A huge thanks to everyone who came to Urvision and made it such an
extraordinary week! Hope we meet at the winter gathering over new years, if
not earlier.
